Pro Helvetia Warsaw was the liaison office of the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia in Central and Eastern Eu-rope. It promoted und supported Swiss culture in Poland and the neighbouring countries between 1992 and 2013. After more than twenty years of activity, Pro Helvetia officially closed its Warsaw liaison office at the end of 2013, considering that cultural exchanges between Switzerland and this part of the world are now well established.
In anticipation of this closing, Pro Helvetia Warsaw strengthened fifteen long-term cultural partnerships in 2012 and 2013 between arts institutions from Switzerland and the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Slovakia.
The official closing of the Swiss Arts Council’s office in Warsaw was marked in December 2013 by a series of debates on the theme of support for culture in countries in transition, as well as by the publication of an essay by the British writer François Matarasso.
